Romantic Date Ideas in Boone, NC

When my husband, David, and I were dating in college at UNC Charlotte, we would escape to Boone to visit my family on the weekends. I would turn off my phone for the whole weekend and we would just focus on being together. Sometimes we’d find ourselves huddled up in a coffee shop studying for our exams for hours and sometimes we’d drop all responsibilities and enjoy our favorite local spots. We both remember Boone being this oasis for us as we navigated through the angst of dating in college.

Now we’re married and our college days are behind us, but we know it’s still important to take time to invest in our relationship, have fun, and grow our friendship. Whether you’re dating, engaged, or married, it’s important to set aside some uninterrupted time to go on a date and just be with your best friend. Boone has so many sweet and simple date options for any time of day. Keep reading to hear a few of my favs!

#1 Morning Coffee Date

image.jpg

Morning dates are extra special, in my opinion. There’s something sweet and simple about starting your day off with your significant other. Hatchet Coffee is the perfect local coffee shop and their coffee game is on point!

Where to go: Hatchet Coffee only has outdoor seating at picnic tables right now, but it’s still a great spot.

What to order: One of their OG drinks is the “Warm Hug”. It’s cinnamon-y and delicious in every way. I also love trying their seasonal lattes!

What to wear: Leggings, joggers, and hoodies are made for morning dates! I say go comfy and casual for this one.

What to do: When indoor seating is available they have board games set out for guests to use. Bring your favorite board game or a deck of cards for some good ole’ healthy competition.

P.S. David and I actually went to Hatchet the morning of our wedding for one last morning coffee date before we were husband and wife!

#2 Lunchtime Hiking

image.jpg

Boone is not short on hiking options by any means. The Blue Ridge Parkway has so many different hikes than range in length and difficulty. Grab lunch to-go from Basil’s and head to the Parkway for a short and sweet hike up to a beautiful view.

Where to go: Beacon Heights Trail is a 0.2 mile trail that takes you up to a BEAUTIFUL view. It’s the perfect spot to bring a picnic and take in some mountain air.

What to order: The Basil Special is a great sandwich made on Stickboy’s cranberry pecan bread. It’s the perfect lunch for a picnic.

What to wear: You’re going to want to check the weather for this one! Wear whatever you’re comfortable hiking and being outside in.

What to do: Order lunch to go, drive on the parkway to the trailhead, bring lunch and a blanket up to the top, sit and enjoy the view!

#3 A Night Out

image.jpg

Sometimes you just need to get dressed up and get out of the house. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love pizza and beer and I’m guessing you’re the same! The Lost Province Brewing Co. in Downtown Boone is the perfect local night out.

Where to go: The Lost Province Brewing Co. is a gastropub that sources local beer, local ingredients, and makes everything in house. The atmosphere is great and it’s located in the heart of Boone.

What to order: Lost Province pizza is to die for. It has country ham, apples, caramelized onions, and goat cheese. Get a beer flight to share so you can try out different brews. I’m not going to lie...everything on their menu is incredible!

What to wear: It’s a night out and your work from home outfit isn’t going to cut it! Wear something you feel confident in and take a picture because anyone who dresses up these days deserves to have it photographed.

What to do: Enjoy pizza and beer and after your food has settled, take a walk on King Street. There’s something special about walking under the streetlights of a small town. If you left room for dessert, try out a cookie sandwich from Blue Deer Cookie.
