Christina and Kenny married at Overlook Barn in Banner Elk, North Carolina on April 22, 2022. They intentionally chose to get married on Earth Day and their wedding was full of eco-friendly decisions!
The ceremony was held in Mary’s Meadow and it was the most perfect 70 degree day. The officiant was a childhood friend of Christina which made it feel very personal. Kenny and Christina read their own vows and there were not many dry eyes in the crowd!
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour in Cliffside Barn with a chips, salsa, and guacamole station and signature drinks named after Kenny and Christina’s beloved dogs, Mozzi and Cannoli! The cocktail cups had drawings of the pups on them and guests got to keep the cups as their favors.
The reception began in Overlook Barn with a newlywed introduction and first dance. Guests then got to enjoy a fully vegetarian meal that was latin-inspired. Kenny and Christina have both made the eco-friendly decision to be vegetarian and they wanted to share that passion with their guests. The tablescapes included spring florals with a muted color pallet from Thistle and Twig Flowers and mid-century modern dishware from Miss Match Rentals. Dinner was catered by Reid’s Catering and was absolutely delicious!
For dessert, Kenny and Christina opted to go a non-traditional route and they had a cookie trailer from Blue Deer Cookie set under the string lights at the firepit area outside of Overlook Barn. During sunset, guests flocked to the outdoor area to enjoy dessert and watch the perfect Spring sunset.
Bunn DJ Company kept the dance floor full while guests danced and took photos in the photo booth. The photobooth would automatically text or email photos to guests' phones. This was a great eco-friendly option because it didn’t produce any unnecessary paper waste!
High Country Transportation took guests back to their accommodations at the end of the wedding. Offering transportation to guests is also a more eco-friendly option because it encourages carpooling.
The day after the wedding, I was able to take the flowers to Shad’s Landing Gracious Retirement Living so that residents could enjoy the florals for the days after the wedding. They were overjoyed to receive them!
From the repurposed ceremony arbor to the vegetarian meal to the avoidance of single use items at the wedding, this wedding embodied what an eco-friendly wedding could be! I loved getting to work with Kenny and Christina and all their great vendors on this Earth Day Wedding!
To the Mazza’s, I hope you have a lifetime full of loving one another, adventuring with your dogs, and pursuing sustainability in all areas of your life!
