Eco-friendly Wedding Decisions
The core value of Joelle Parks Events Co. is to reduce waste in the event industry by making more eco-friendly and intentional decisions. I wanted to share a few ways that their wedding accomplished this!
Florals: We repurposed the ceremony arbor as a backdrop for the sweetheart table. Bridesmaids bouquets were used all around the venue after the ceremony as well! All of the florals were either given to family/vendors or taken to Appalachian Brian Estates (a retirement community in Boone). They will decompose on their own, but we were able to make sure they could be enjoyed beyond the wedding day!
Catering: More food means more waste. Offering a plated dinner helps create less waste when compared to a buffet or stations.
Dessert and bar: there were no single-use plastics used for the desserts or the bar!
Rentals: All of the dishware, tables, linens, etc. were rentals. None of the items were single use, which means many other couples can use them in the future.
Venue: "I'll share that both Overlook and Cliffside Barns were in various degrees of deterioration when we decided to renovate and revive them for their Act Two. We made every attempt to repair rather than replace when we could, and also use materials found in and around the barn for as much as we could. For instance, all of our farm tables are made from reclaimed wood from the barn, Cliffside's floors are original, and the counter for the bar and makeup counters were all from wood on the property." --Katie, venue owner
